ECONOMYNEXT – A cabinet sub-committee, headed by Foreign Minister Ali Sabry was appointed to probe Sri Lanka cricket, a statement from President’s media office said after an interim committee was installed by the sports minister.
“The Cabinet has resolved to appoint a special sub-committee with the mandate to examine the current situation and work in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including input from esteemed former cricketers,” the statement said.
“The primary objective of this sub-committee is to recommend immediate, viable measures to resolve the outstanding issues in Sri Lanka Cricket.”
Other members of the committee are Kanchana Wijesekara – Minister of Power and Energy, Manusha Nanayakkara Minister of Labour & Foreign Employment and Tiran Alles – Minister of Public Security.
An additional secretary to the President, nominated by the Secretary to the President, will be the Secretary/Convenor to the sub-committee.
Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe yesterday appointed an interim committee headed by former cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga after the Sri Lanka team suffered a string of defeats.
Media reports said the President was unaware of the appointment of the interim committee. (Colombo/Nov07/2023)
