ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to lift a one-year suspension imposed on Danushka Gunathilaka, KusalMendis and NiroshanDickwella from playing International Cricket over breaching Coronavirus ‘bio bubble’.
SLC said the latest decision was taken following a request made by the three players to Sri Lanka Cricket to lift the ban imposed on them, pursuant to the conclusion of the LPL 2021.
Following a bio-bubble breach in Durham, England, on June 27,2021 right after a T20 series defeat versus England, the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, imposed fine of 10 Million Sri Lanka for each player and a one year ban from all forms of International Cricket.
The were also given a six month ban from domestic cricket. They were then subject to another year’s ban which would be suspended for two years.

Based on the request made by the three players, SLC obtained a report from a doctor appointed by the body to provide counseling for the three players during their period of suspension.
Upon consideration of the said report submitted by the doctor, the Executive Committee of the SLC decided at a meeting held today (7th January, 2022) to remove the ban of the said three players.
However, it will be suspended for a period of two years, during which the players’ conduct will be closely monitored by the SLC.
The three players will be able to engage in playing domestic cricket with immediate effect and will also be available for national selection, subject to complying with mandatory fitness standards, SLC said. (Colombo/ Jan 07/2021)
