ECONOMYNEXT – Zara Rutherford, a 19-year old Beligian-British pilot flying solo around the world to break a Guiness world record landed in Sri Lanka on December 28, making the island her 40th stop.
Rutherford is flying ‘Shark’, a high-performance ultralight aircraft manufactured in Europe in her journey to break the Guinness World Records, a statement from the Colombo International Airport, Ratmalana (CIAR) said.
She is aiming to break the Guinness World Record as the youngest woman to fly around the world, the first woman to circumnavigate the world in a microlight and the first Belgian to circumnavigate the world solo in a single engine.
She started her journey in August 2021 and hopes to complete a distance 51,000-kilometre trip across five continents and 52 countries by mid-January 2022. (Colombo/Dec28/2021)
