ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Dipped Products Plc, said it will invest 1.6 billion rupees in solar panels in five factories in the island and one in Thailand.
Already, 93 percent of the group’s energy needs were met by biomass and renewable sources.
DPL said it is targeting 30 percent sustainable water sourcing and 55 percent reuse of treated wastewater in a roadmap up to 2030.
“We recognize the increasing call for sustainable sourcing across the world, a demand that compels us to protect not only the hands of millions but also the world they touch,” DPL Managing Director Pushpika Janadheera said in a statement.
At a site in Hanwella effluent water is treated and re-used saving nearly 40 percent of the at the site.
A sports glove complex set up recently is powered by 325kW solar rooftop panels. It also has a rainwater harvesting system.
DPL said it targeting a minimum of 10 percent of its product portfolio to be eco-rated and will increase the use of recycled raw materials in its manufacturing process by at least 30 percent. (Colombo/Aug20/2023)
