ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s stocks have extended the gains made on Tuesday for a second consecutive day, closing 0.29 percent higher amid volatile trade, provisional data showed.
The All Share Price Index (ASPI) at the Colombo Stock Exchange closed 16.82 points up at 5,847.83.
The ASPI reached a high of 5,856.77 in the first hour of trade, and remained volatile throughout the day.
The S&P SL20 Index of more liquid stocks closed 0.84 percent or 23.45 points up at 2,807.11.
Market turnover was 188.1 million rupees, while 75 stocks gained and 50 fell.
Sri Lanka’s largest listed lender Commercial Bank contributed most to the ASPI gain. Commercial Bank closed 1.80 rupees up at 235 rupees a share.
Banking counters accounted for 55 percent of turnover, and the bank industry index gained 1.57 percent. (Colombo/Feb19/2020)
