ECONOMYNEXT – The Colombo Stock Exchange closed down on Friday, CSE data showed.
The All Share Price Index was down 0.39 percent, or 41.73 points, at 10,742.
The S&P SL20 index was down 0.64 percent, or 20.00 points, at 3,099.
Turnover was low at 508 million. Most of this came from the food, beverage and tobacco sector (131 million).
Positive contributors to the ASPI were DFCC Bank Plc (up at 81.50), Commercial Bank Of Ceylon Plc (up at 93.90), and Amana Bank Plc (up at 2.30).
Most other banks continued to trade down: Sampath Bank Plc (down at 71.40), National Development Bank Plc (down at 67.80), Hatton National Bank Plc (down at 167.00).
Market participants said there was not much transfer of funds into the equity market since interest rates hadn’t come down. There was also a seasonal lack of interest, they said. (Colombo/Dec15/2023).
