ECONOMYNEXT – The Colombo Stock Exchange closed down on Friday, CSE data showed.
The All Share Price Index was down 0.34 percent, or 36.73 points, at 10,789.87.
The S&P SL20 was down 0.68 percent, or 20.89 points, at 3,031.28.
Turnover was low at 513 million.
Analysts said there was no consistent buying interest in the market while investors waited for the 2024 budget which is to be presented to Parliament on 13 November.
Banking sector shares, which attracted investor interest yesterday showed a dip in today’s trading.
Share prices dipped in the banking sector, with Hatton National Bank (down 1.96 percent), Commercial Bank (down 0.67 percent), Sampath Bank (down 1.50 percent) and DFCC (down 2.26 percent) seeing losses in the day.
Both Amana Takaful Plc (up 12.28 percent) and Amana Bank Plc (up 4.55 percent) saw gains.
Shares of Aitken Spence Plc (up 0.80 percent), and Ceylon Tobacco Company Plc (up 0.59 percent) also attracted some investor interest during the day’s trading.
There was a net foreign inflow of 38 million in the day’s trading. (Colombo/Nov 3/2023)
