ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s stock market closed on a mixed note on Monday, Colombo Stock Exchange data showed.
The main All Share Price Index was down 0.01 percent or 1.51 points to 10,687.99, while the more liquid index S&P SL20 was up a marginal 0.06 points to 3,015.44.
The market generated a low turnover of 396 million rupees. This was the lowest the market’s seen since May 31 this year.
“Now that we are getting closer to the budget people are not very active in the market, plus it’s also the end of the month,” an analyst said. “Investors want to wait and see what the outcome is.”
Gainers during the day were Lanka IOC plc (LIOC) which had just announced that profits fell 60 percent to 5.0 billion rupees in the September 2023 quarter from a year ago, in its interim accounts.
LIOC shares closed up 6.28 percent, or 6.50 to trade at 110.00 rupees.
Other gainers included Melstacorp, Dialog Axiata, Browns Investments plc and Sanasa Development Bank.
Expolanka, which also saw results released, saw some trading activity.
Richard Pieris and Company, LOLC, Hayles, Vallibel One plc and Sri Lanka Telecom traded down in the day. Colombo/October30/2023)
