ECONOMYNEXT – The Colombo Stock Exchange closed down on Tuesday, data on its site showed.
The broader All Share Index closed down an imperceptible percentage, or 0.44 points, at 12,375; while the S&P SL20 Index closed down 0.02 percent, or 0.67 points, at 3,647.
Turnover was at 2 billion. Capital goods contributed 525 million of this, and the food, beverage and tobacco sector contributed 423 million.
Royal Ceramics Lanka Plc saw the most active trading volumes (Rs124mn) in the day, and the share closed flat at 35.00.
Browns Investments Plc also saw some interest (Rs106mn) and the share closed up at 6.70. parent company LOLC Holdings Plc closed up at 486.00.
Index heavyweight John Keells Holdings Plc was down at 201.50, as was rival conglomerate Aitken Spence Plc at 131.25.
Hayleys Plc closed up at 93.10. Hayleys Fabric Plc closed up at 43.10.
Most bank shares closed down in the day except for Commercial Bank of Ceylon Plc (up at 114.00), Seylan Bank Plc (up at 41.50) and HDFC Bank of Sri Lanka (up at 37.30).
Positive contributors to the ASPI included Richard Pieris and Company Plc (up at 22.00), and Ceylon Tobacco Company Plc (up at 1,297.75). (Colombo/May7/2024)
