ECONOMYNEXT – The Colombo Stock Exchange closed down on Thursday, data on its site showed.
The broader All Share Index closed down 0.07 percent, or 9.27 points, at 12,353.68; while the S&P SL20 Index closed down 0.23 percent, or 8.56 points, at 3,681.41.
Turnover was at 3 billion. 1 billion of this came from the capital goods sector.
“After a one-and-a-half week surge in the market we are seeing some consolidation taking place, and possibly some profit taking too,” market participants said.
Hayleys Plc saw the most active trading volumes (Rs417mn) in the day, and the share closed up at 93.90.
“Hayleys has been in the limelight during the last week. There is buying interest coming into that share.” Hayleys Plc is one of six bidders for SriLankan Airlines, the state enterprise restructuring unit said last week.
Royal Ceramics Lanka Plc also saw continued investor interest, and the share closed up at 34.10.
Major positive contributors to the ASPI included Ceylinco Insurance Plc (up at 2,500.75), Richard Pieris and Company Plc (up at 21.50), Central Finance Company Plc (up at 125.25), and Ceylon Tobacco Company Plc (up at 1,299.00). (Colombo/May2/2024)
