ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s rupee opened firmer at 181.75/85 to the US dollar on Wednesday, while bond yields were flat and stocks opened 0.16 percent higher, brokers and dealers said.
Sri Lanka rupee closed 181.85/182.00 to the greenback on Tuesday.
In equities, Colombo’s All Share Price Index gained 9.50 points to 5,849.98 and the S&P SL20 Index of more liquid stocks was up 0.23 percent or 6.72 points to 2,884.72, in the first hour of trade.
The market turnover was 91 million rupees with 31 stocks gaining and 26 falling.
Ceylon Tobacco Company was up 10 cents to 1,050.10 rupees a share, contributing most to the ASPI gain.
Yields were flat in the secondary bond market, dealers said.
A bond maturing on 15.12.2021 was quoted at 8.65/70 percent on Wednesday, unchanged from Tuesday’s close.
A bond maturing 15.07.2023 was quoted flat at 9.62/68 percent.
A bond maturing on 15.09.2024 was unchanged at 10.00/02 percent.
A 15-year bond maturing on 15.09.2034 was quoted at 10.66/70 percent, down from 10.67/70 percent.
