ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s rupee opened weaker at 180.70/80 to the US dollar on Monday, while bond yields were flat and stocks opened 0.59 percent higher, brokers and dealers said.
Sri Lanka rupee closed 180.65/75 to the greenback on Friday.
In equities, Colombo’s All Share Price Index gained 34.28 points to 5,868.94 and the S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.43 percent or 12.43 points to 2,878.87, in the first half-hour of trade.
The market turnover was 56 million rupees with 39 stocks gaining and 11 falling.
Ceylon Tobacco Company was up 49.90 rupees to 1,009.90 rupees a share, contributing most to the ASPI gain.
In the secondary bond market, bond yields were flat in a dull market, dealers said.
A bond maturing on 15.12.2021 was quoted at 8.70/80 percent on Monday gaining from 8.68/73 percent from Friday’s close.
A bond maturing 15.07.2023 was quoted at 9.67/70 percent, up from 9.65/70 percent on Friday.
A bond maturing on 15.09.2024 was quoted at 10.10/15 percent, unchanged from Friday’s close.
A 15-year bond maturing on 15.09.2034 was quoted flat at 10.68/72 percent.
