ECONOMYNEXT – Kavan Ratnayaka has been appointed to succeed Ronald C Perera PC as chairman of the Bank of Ceylon with effect from March 14, BoC said in a stock exchange filing.
Ratnayaka currently serves on the Board of KBSL (Pvt) Ltd and Agility Innovations (Pvt) Limited, and is a Trustee of the Jayam Wijeratnam Trust and of the Dialog Foundation.
He has previously functioned as the chairman of the National Development Bank PLC (NDB), the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), and Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (ANCL).
He has also served as the group chief corporate officer of Cargills Ceylon PLC and of Dialog Axiata PLC, the chief executive officer of Dialog Broadband Networks (DBN) and as IBM Sri Lanka’s country general manager.
He has served as a committee member of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), a council member of the Employers Federation of Ceylon (EFC), and as president of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM).
Ratnayaka holds a Bachelor of Science (Physics) from the University of California, Riverside Campus and is an old boy of Royal College.
Kavan is the elder brother of Sagala Ratnayaka, President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s senior adviser on national security and chief of presidential staff. (Colombo/Mar13/2024)
