ECONOMYNEXT – The Colombo Stock Exchange closed down on Thursday, data on its site showed.
The broader All Share Index closed down 0.26 percent, or 31.84 points, at 12,259; while the S&P SL20 Index closed down 0.08 percent, or 2.86 points, at 3,633.
Turnover was down at 1.4 billion. This was its lowest since April 22.
John Keells Holdings Plc saw the most active volumes traded in the day; the share closed up at 203.00.
Hayleys Fabric Plc also saw most active volumes, and the share closed up at 42.40.
The banking counter saw mixed sentiments: Sampath Bank Plc closed down at 77.40, Hatton National Bank Plc closed down at 195.00, Commercial Bank of Ceylon Plc closed flat at 114.75, while National Development Bank Plc closed up at 78.90, and DFCC Bank Plc closed up at 80.00.
Several conglomerates closed down: Aitken Spence Plc was down at 130.25, Richard Pieris and Company Plc was down at 21.00, Melstacorp Plc was down at 89.50, and Sunshine Holdings Plc was down at 64.50.
Among the top positive contributors to the index in the day were Browns Investments Plc (up at 6.40), Amana Bank Plc (up at 2.40), and TeeJay Lanka Plc (up at 39.00).
