ECONOMYNEXT – State-run SriLankan Airlines said it had leased two aircraft from Air Belgium to boost its fleet, which had been depleted by expiring leases and aircraft grounded due to a engine manufacturers defect.
SriLankan had received a wet-leased Airbus A330-200 in December with 22 business class seats.
It will be deployed on the Frankfurt, Dubai and Dhaka routes, SriLankan said.
A second aircraft from Air Belgium is to arrive in mid-January 2024.
SriLankan had to cancel some flights over the Christmas week after a tyre burst in Paris and delays in getting spare parts.
Airbus NEO aircraft in the fleet were grounded as part of a global directive were out of service for a long period due to delays in supplying new engines by the manufacturer.
