ECONOMYNEXT – The implementation of Electronic Transaction Orders (e-Grama Niladhari Information System) No. 1 of 2022 was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers this week.
This allows the use of electronic documents and reports when obtaining services from District Secretariats, Divisional Secretaries and Grama Niladhari Officers.
The electronic transaction orders (e-Grama Niladhari Information System) No. 1 of 2022 prepared by the Minister of Technology under the provisions of the Electronic Transactions Act No. 19 of 2006 was published in the extraordinary gazette notification No. 2311/40 of 22.12.2022.
Sri Lanka is on a drive to adopt digital technologies and is amending regulations to facilitate electronic transactions, enhance cybersecurity, and promote the use of digital platforms for various services.
Global institutions, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), have recommended the Sri Lankan government to digitalise its transactions, including tax claims, to reduce human intervention and corruption.
