ECONOMYNEXT – Madurika Joseph Weninger and W M Dharmapala have been approved as Sri Lanka’s ambassadors designate to Egypt and Bangladesh by the high post committee, a statement from the parliament said.
Ambassador designate Joseph Weninger is currently Director General Economic Affairs of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She was previously Consul General of Sri Lanka in Frankfurt am Main, Germany and Deputy Chief of Mission Sri Lanka Embassy in Vienna Austria. She was Counsellor and Head of Chancery Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Ambassador-designate Dharmapala is Acting Director General for South Asia, according to the Foreign Ministry website.
The high posts committee has also approved H M B P Herath as the Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism and Lands.
Major General (Retd) G. A. Chandrasiri as the Chairman of Airports and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Pvt) Limited, S. W. M. Hettige as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Institute of Bio Technology (Pvt) Limited, B.M.L Pathirana as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Press council and I. S. Wijesekara as the Chairman of Sri Lanka State Plantation Corporation. (Colombo/Oct08/2023 – Update II)
