ASC offering concerts, auditions, pottery workshop in the community

Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St., will present the Sound of the Pride concert, a unique pottery workshop and host auditions for a production on Robin Hood, among other upcoming events.

Family celebration on the second Saturday: basket weaving – January 8

January’s events begin with the second Saturday of Family FunDay, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on January 8, where attendees can weave soft materials into colorful trinket baskets. This event is free, according to a press release.

The second Saturday of the ASC Family FunDay program features monthly arts and science activities. The event is led by guest artists, art educators and CSA staff. Family FunDay is sponsored by the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation.

ART WORKS Presents: Sound of the Pride – January 14

ASC will host ART WORKS Presents: Sound of the Pride, featuring students from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 14. The concert program will be held at the Adam B. Robinson Jr. Black Box Theater at UVRES D’ART, 627 S. Main St. It is open to persons 16 years of age and over. Admission is $ 5 for ASC members and $ 10 for non-members.

UAPB studio students will be performing a “small office” style concert as part of their fundraising series with instructor Damon Tolbert as host. The campaign benefits UAPB’s sound recording and technology department.

Community members are invited to sing along and show off their own vocal skills in an open mic setting. ASC will raffle door prizes, including artwork by glassmaker James Hayes and a CD featuring works by Tolbert. This event is sponsored by MK Distributors.

Pinch Pot Pottery Workshop with Instructor Troy DeBill – January 15

Clients can learn the basics of working with clay and low-heat glazes (terracotta) from instructor Troy DeBill, fine arts teacher and EAST Initiative facilitator for White Hall Middle School. She will be hosting the workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 15 at The ARTSpace on Main, 623 S. Main St.

Participants will learn pinching techniques to create unique containers. The workshop is aimed at 13 years old and over. No experience is necessary.

DeBill graduated from the State University of New York at Potsdam in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Arts Education, with a concentration in Ceramics.

Auditions: “The somewhat true story of Robin des Bois” – January 15-16

The ASC will be hosting auditions for “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood” on Saturday and Sunday January 15-16 at the ASC’s Catherine M. Bellamy Theater. Auditions are by appointment only. Winter CreATE Lab 2022 – Saturdays January 22 and 29; February 5, 12, 19, 26; March 5, 12

ASC brings its largest CrEATe Lab nutritious cooking series to the community with eight new sessions. Students aged 10 to 17 will learn with Faith Anaya, owner of Little Rock Kids Cook cooking school! Classes take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday January 22 and 29; February 5, 12, 19 and 26; and March 5 and 12.

The cost is $ 35 for the eight sessions.

CreATe Lab includes hands-on cooking, gardening, and shopping. Participants will learn how to properly prepare affordable nutritious meals; wash, peel, chop and slice various foods; and read and understand nutrition labels.
