Key Data Science Education Initiatives by IITs and IIMs of 2021
Being proficient in analyzing and interpreting data is one of the most employable skills today. But there is a huge gap between the skills needed to enter the industry and what is currently taught in colleges. Indian colleges and universities have also realized this and are trying to offer courses suitable for these new era technologies.
2021 has seen a series of new educational initiatives aimed at upskilling students as well as data science and AI professionals. Let’s take a look at some of them here.
IIM Ahmedabad has launched the Brij Disa Center for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CDSA). He said this center will conduct research in data science and artificial intelligence that will contribute to business, governance and policy-making. It will also publish a comprehensive annual report on the Data Science and AI industry in India which will examine the challenges that exist in the industry and offer solutions to overcome them.
IIM Nagpur has launched the Data Science Graduate Certificate Program for Business Excellence and Innovation. It is aimed at early and mid-career professionals looking for development opportunities to perform well in their careers. It lasts 9-12 months and is scheduled beyond working hours and with flexibility to learn from convenient locations with working professionals.
IIT-I and IIM-I
IIT Indore and IIM Indore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to offer a two-year Master of Science program in Data Science and Management. The course is aimed at working executives and recent graduates. The two institutes said the aim of the course is to equip students with the skills necessary for data scientist roles, such as data management skills, project management, data analysis life cycle big data and systems thinking.
IIT Guwahati has launched a bachelor’s degree program in data science and artificial intelligence. He said the first batch of 20 students will be admitted to the institution through the JEE Advanced-2021 counseling process. It is designed to educate students holistically, focusing on relevant courses from other disciplines such as computer science, electronics and electrical engineering, mathematics and statistics, the institute said.
The School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI) at IIT Delhi has announced a postgraduate program in Artificial Intelligence named “M.Tech in Machine Intelligence & Data Science (MINDS)”. It is expected to start in July 2022. M.Tech in MINDS is an industry-sponsored program and the focus will be on AI issues relevant to industry. They will be co-supervised by a professor from IIT Delhi and a researcher from the sponsoring company. Eligibility to pursue this program will be an undergraduate degree in science or engineering.
It introduced three new courses as part of the four-year B Tech program for the early 2021 academic session, one of which is in artificial intelligence and data science. Admission to these courses will be through JEE Advanced 2021. It will be
The Punjab Skills Development Mission and IIT Ropar have partnered to offer a free course on Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. It will be held online with IIT faculty and industry leaders participating. It is open to students in the 12th class with a background in mathematics. Students will receive a certificate from IIT Ropar at the end of the course.
