YouTube Music introduces a shortcut to the Downloads app for Android

After removing the useful “Offline Mixtape” app shortcut in July last year, US online music streaming and social media platform YouTube Music has now introduced a new app shortcut ” Downloads” as a more complete replacement for Android.

The new download feature is available for all Android users. Similar to Android, long-press the YouTube Music icon to reveal a new “Downloads” app shortcut.

Instead of the single automatic “Offline Mixtape” playlist created by Smart Downloads, tapping shuffles all your downloads. This appears to include any individual tracks/albums/playlists you have saved for offline listening.

It can be moved to the home screen like other program shortcuts. This is by far the fastest way to start shuffling, especially if you’re not connected to the internet. It’s much easier than manually going to the “Downloads” page.

The “Downloads” shortcut is visible in YouTube Music for Android versions 4.63 and 4.64. It seems to have been widely released via a server-side upgrade in recent days.

The shortcut to “Play Offline Mixtape” was never removed from the iOS app, which was recently updated to include outline-style icons in the bottom bar, Library tab, and Now Playing screen.

YouTube Music is an American online music streaming service created by the YouTube division of Google. It offers a custom interface for the service that is designed for music streaming, allowing users to search for songs and music videos on YouTube using genres, playlists, and recommendations.
