The Colombo Stock Exchange closed down on Wednesday, CSE data showed.
The All Share Price Index was down 0.08 percent, or 8.63 points, at 10,603.
The S&P SL20 index was down 0.24 percent, or 7.32 points, at 3,045.
Turnover was high at 5 billion, the highest since July 13. Most of this came from the Materials Industry (4.2 billion).
“We saw a stake change of 58.8% changing hands in Agstar Plc. Altogether 286.5 million shares changed hands, which boosted the turnover in terms of the index,” a market participant said.
“Banking saw a bit of a sliding down, it pushed down the index with it.”
There was a net foreign outflow of 21 million.
Positive contributors to the ASPI were Ceylon Tobacco Company (up at 1.93), Central Finance (up at 1.46), and Hayleys Plc (up at 0.97). (Colombo/Dec20/2023).
